On-Site Water Protection Branch
Large and Industrial Process Wastewater Systems
On-site wastewater treatment and disposal systems with a design flow over 3,000 gallons per day or those
which are classified as industrial process wastewater must be designed by a North Carolina Licensed Soil
Scientist and a North Carolina Professional Engineer. These systems are also required to be submitted to the
State for review. The State has documents that identify the minimum information that is required to be
included in the plans and specifications.
Industrial process wastewater generators include manufacturing, processing, institutional, commercial
businesses, mining, agricultural production and processing as well as wastewater from the cleanup of
contaminated sites.
